Correction for SAS 38/24

We wrote last week in the slug entitled “SpaceX Astronaut-Violinist Performs from Space with Youth Orchestra on Earth”, that “Besides being the first to play the violin from space, Sarah Gillis also made history by becoming the first female to conduct a spacewalk, accompanied by Jared Isaacman, also the first to do a private spacewalk on a private commercial mission.” It should have read that both of them were the first to do so on a private commercial mission.

As an alert reader pointed out to us, the first female to perform an EVA (extravehicular activity or spacewalk) was the Russian Svetlana Savitskaya, back in 1984, on her second mission to the Salyut-7 space station. The first American to do so was Kathryn Sullivan, later that same year. We stand corrected, and trust there will be many more breakthroughs in space research to come.
