Biden Administration Promotes Censorship to “Protect” Free Speech

The White House announced last week the establishment of a “Disinformation Governance Board” in the Department of Homeland Security, a decision defended by DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas as necessary to protect the right to free speech. Yes, you heard that right — to uphold the cherished First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which guarantees Americans the right to free speech, the Biden administration has set up an agency to officially exercise censorship. Making this decision even more surreal was naming as its director Nina Jankowicz, a political operative who has been guilty of spreading disinformation herself.

Nina Jankowicz honed her skills as a Fulbright fellow in Kiev in 2017, working with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to counter foreign (i.e., Russian) disinformation. She also served as the supervisor of the Russian and Belarus programs at the National Democratic Institute (NDI – known for organizing civil uprisings for Color Revolutions, as it did in cooperation with the National Republican Institute in organizing the Ukraine Maidan coup in 2014). She is presently the disinformation expert at the Wilson Center, and published a book in 2020 titled How to Lose the Information War.

Nina Jankowicz is on record for defending the credibility of Christopher Steele, a former MI6 operative and author of the fabricated “dirty dossier” against Donald Trump, which was paid for by the Clinton campaign. That dossier purported to show that Trump was a victim of sexual blackmail by President Putin and would be Moscow’s puppet if elected President – and has since been thoroughly discredited.

On the same track, she denounced the circulation of material obtained from Hunter Biden’s laptop, which demonstrates corrupt dealings with Ukrainian and Chinese officials, which may implicate his father, President Biden (cf. SAS 44, 45/20). She dismissed the story as “a Trump campaign product,” and “Russian disinformation.” In recent weeks, both the New York Times and Washington Post reported that their investigations have confirmed the information obtained from the laptop is real…

Why create such a “disinformation agency” at this time? There is growing concern that the narratives being pumped out against Putin and Russia are falling on deaf ears, and that the U.S. and the U.K. are losing the “information war.” Thus, the need to silence any opposition to the establishment’s narrative. But the maneuver may backfire as the censors increase the interest in what they are censoring.

Outside Washington, the censorship of dissident political views by “private” companies, including Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, as well as Apple and Google app stores, is now being extended directly to financial transactions. In addition to Mint Press News and various individuals, PayPal suddenly shut down on May 1 the account of Consortium News, a major website for those challenging the push for nuclear war and a police state including from among former officials and whistleblowers.
